Cloud Data Warehouse Firm Snowflake Opens Seattle Office

Cloud data warehouse company Snowflake Computing opened a new Seattle-area engineering office Thursday to attract talent from the Pacific Northwest and augment its Silicon Valley headquarters. Demand for Snowflake’s service for enterprises has grown exponentially, the company says, and it requires a fresh supply of world-class engineers to fuel its continued innovation.

The new office is located in downtown Bellevue, which is often ranked one of the most desirable cities in the U.S. to live in, according to the announcement. Snowflake CEO Bob Muglia and Seattle Development Center Lead Leo Giakoumakis both spent time in the Seattle area while with Microsoft.

“Snowflake became the world’s best data warehouse because the company started with the world’s best engineers,” Snowflake head of engineering, Sameet Agrawal said in a statement. “And they attracted other top engineers from around the globe and all over Silicon Valley — a process that continues to repeat at Snowflake today. Now it’s time we open our doors to the best engineers in Seattle. The company is currently hiring product managers, engineering managers, senior and junior engineers for its Seattle office.

Snowflake also has regional offices in New York and London.

Stratoscale acquired DBaaS provider Tesora in February to offer a somewhat different approach to serving the data services market, which is expected to exceed $14 billion by 2019.
